Morocco Tours from Tangier: 5, 7, 9 or 10 Days?

Short answer: from Tangier you can reach Marrakech in 5 days (Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara at Merzouga, the Dades Valley and Ait Ben Haddou), but 7 days is the most comfortable option for a first trip, and 9–10 days lets you add the imperial cities, the Atlantic coast or a slower desert stay. Below we compare our Tangier itineraries so you can choose the right length for your holiday.

Why start your Morocco tour in Tangier?

Tangier is the natural entry point if you come from Spain by ferry or fly into Tangier Ibn Battouta airport. Starting in the north lets you discover a Morocco that many travellers miss – the blue city of Chefchaouen, the Rif mountains and the old capital of Fes – before heading south to the dunes and finishing in Marrakech, where you can fly home.

The classic route from Tangier to Marrakech

  1. Tangier to Chefchaouen (about 115 km): the blue-washed medina in the Rif mountains, ideal for an afternoon stroll and sunset at the Spanish Mosque viewpoint.
  2. Chefchaouen to Fes: the largest medieval medina in the Arab world, with its tanneries, madrasas and craftsmen. Many itineraries stop at the Roman ruins of Volubilis and the imperial city of Meknes on the way.
  3. Fes to Merzouga: a long but beautiful drive through the Middle Atlas cedar forests and the Ziz valley to the Erg Chebbi dunes, with a camel ride at sunset and a night in a desert camp.
  4. Merzouga to the Dades Valley: palm groves, kasbahs and the Todra Gorge.
  5. Dades to Marrakech: Ouarzazate, the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou and the Tizi n’Tichka pass over the High Atlas.

How to choose the right length

  • 5 days: you see all the highlights, but expect several long driving days.
  • 7 days: the best balance – more time in Fes, Chefchaouen and the desert.
  • 9–10 days: add the imperial cities, the Atlantic coast or a second night in the Sahara, and enjoy slower mornings.

Practical tips

  • Best seasons: spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November).
  • Bring warm clothes for the desert at night, even in spring and autumn.
  • If you arrive by ferry, we can pick you up at the port in Tangier.
